PROF. EDUARDO CIRES

Eduardo Cires Rodríguez (Oviedo, 1981; cireseduardo@uniovi.es) holds a PhD in Plant Genetics and Evolution (2011) with European Mention and the top rating of Summa Cum Laude. His scientific work has been developed in different research areas (Ecology, Plant Physiology, and Botany). He is particularly interested in different aspects of genomic and transcriptomic evolution and phylogenetic reconstruction of polyploid plants. His current research focuses on implementing lab protocols and analysis pipelines for utilizing next generation sequencing (NGS) platforms to address phylogenetic, bio- and phylogeographic questions in non-model plant groups. His research career has been carried out in prestige institutions such as the Atlantic Botanical Garden of Gijón (Spain), the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid (Spain), Plant Systems Biology (Belgium), the Institute of Science and Technology (Austria) and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences of Vienna (Austria). He is currently an Associate Professor of Botany at the University of Oviedo and has authored numerous scientific papers and reviews for international journals.
